Margaret Goodwin Obituary (1936 - 2022)

Margaret A (Peggy) Thulen Goodwin AUGUSTA-Peggy Ann Goodwin passed away peacefully at Maine General Medical Center on January 23, 2022 after a period of declining health. Peggy was born on November 7,1936 on the family farm in Farmingdale, Maine. She was the daughter of Albert Thulen and Vivian S Linton Thulen and the youngest of five children. She had very fond memories of her childhood and school years, attending Farmingdale elementary school and graduating from Gardiner High School, class of 1955. She was active in girls sports all four years and participated in many other school activities. She worked as a carhop at her brother’s restaurant, Ernie's Drive-In, during high school. She met the love of her life, Richard (Dick) Goodwin her junior year in high school and then married in 1957. They recently celebrated sixty-four years of marriage November 17, 2021. After high school Peggy was accepted at Central Maine General School of Nursing in Lewiston and graduated with her RN Degree. Peggy started her nursing career at Gardiner General Hospital and later worked as an office nurse for an Augusta surgeons group. Peggy and Dick were blessed with two wonderful children, Rick and Sara. Being a mom was truly her greatest joy in life. She cherished their many camping trips and snowmobiling throughout the years. Spending time with her family filled her heart with happiness. When her grandsons came along, she and Dick spent many years with them on Cobbossee lake riding around on their pontoon boat. She hosted many family gatherings over the 25 years at the lake which gave her much joy. After Peggy retired from nursing, she and Dick spent 30 years living part time in Florida. They first lived in the Florida Keys where she loved to go deep sea fishing on their boat. Later they spent several years in Naples, Florida where she enjoyed playing tennis and golf. They returned to Maine full time in 2017, moving to Granite Hill Estates in Augusta. She made many friends over the years in Florida and Maine while playing bridge or a round of golf. Peggy was self-taught and very accomplished in sewing, knitting, needle point and many other crafts. She loved knitting sweaters for her grandsons and other family members, afghans and quilts among many of her crafting projects. She was predeceased by her son Rick in 2000, brothers Ernest Thulen and Herbert Thulen, and sisters Azalea Cole and Katherine Hogerty. She leaves behind her beloved husband Dick of Augusta; daughter Sara L Frautten and her husband Richard of Winthrop; grandsons Joshua Frautten and his wife Nehali Shah of Bensalem PA, Travis Frautten and his wife Danica and two daughters Adalynn and Lillian of Readfield, Brady Frautten and his wife Sarah and son Asher of Palm Harbor FL. She loved and cherished her grandsons, their wives and three great grandchildren. They will miss her greatly. She also leaves behind nephews, Jeffery Goodwin, Melvin Cole Jr, and Gregory Thulen, nieces Kristi Goodwin, Margaret Bacon, Cindy Smith, Susan Falvey, Linda Thulen, Donna Cole Rose and Carol Murphy, as well as a special cousin, Joyce Hoxie, several cousins, and long time wonderful friend Mary Jones Lalumiere of over 65 years. Per her request there will be no visitation or funeral service. A graveside service for family and friends will be held Friday, May 20, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery in Gardiner.
