Lillian Mathy Frost GlazierAuburn, ME - Lillian Mathy Frost Glazier passed into peace on the first day of spring, March 20, 2011 at the Hospice House in Auburn surrounded by her family. Lillian Glazier was born on March 26, 1919 in Columbus, Ohio, the third of six children to Jacob and Bertha Mathy. Lillian grew up in Grandview, Ohio, was a graduate of Ohio State University, and while going to college, worked in the public library in Grandview. During World War II, she worked as the librarian for the USO in Atlantic City, where she met her first husband James Glynn Frost of Eastport Maine. Lillian married Glynn, at St. Matthew's Cathedral in Washington, D.C. on August 5, 1944. They first moved to Eastport, Maine after Glynn finished Law School at Ohio State, and then settled in Gardiner, Maine. Glynn died in 1961. On December 6, 1968, Lillian married Lucien 'Skip' Glazier. Lillian worked for the Gardiner office of the Red Cross, eight years as Coordinator of the Maine State Head Start and also developed a state-wide Dental Health Education Program. After retiring from the state, Lillian spent many years living in Port Charlotte, FL in the winter and on Great Pond, Belgrade Lakes, in the summer. She so loved living on Great Pond, in a camp that Skip built. She spent several summers working at the Brass Knocker in Belgrade Lakes. She was a prolific reader and student of history. She loved writing poetry, researching genealogy and spending time with her family. Lillian was an avid sports fan, closely following the Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics and Ohio State Buckeye football team. One of her greatest joys was sitting with the Ohio State Marching band in the end zone during an Ohio State football game in 2000.She is survived by her children, daughter Judith Frost and husband, Rick Speer of Auburn, daughter, Marian Leso and husband Bob Leso of Chesterville, son John Frost and partner Mary Lewis of Whitefield, and daughter Elizabeth Frost-Hawes andhusband Joel Hawes of Eliot: five grandchildren, Andrew Leso and wife Morgan Leso of Farmington, John Leso of Chesterville, Kate Speer of Philadelphia, PA, Ethan and Rachel Hawes, of Eliot; two great grandchildren, Nolan and Jack Leso of Farmington. She is also survived by her stepson Peter's wife Virginia Glazier, Virginia's daughter Kim Glazier Donnelly, Kim's daughter Kaitlind and the many wonderful nieces and nephews of Lillian's brothers and sister. She was predeceased by her two husbands James Glynn Frost and Lucien 'Skip' Glazier; stepson, Peter Glazier; her parents and brothers Nicholas, Robert and George Mathy and sisters Marie Mathy Menges and Loretta Mathy. The family would like to express their deep gratitude and sincere appreciation to all the wonderful care and compassion that was received from Schooner Estates and the Hospice House. The family is planning a grave site service later in the spring.
