John Chauncey Petela of Warren MI, born May 18, 1948 was called home to Glory on August 14th, 2014 at 3:23 am. John is preceeded in death by his mother Edna, father Leon, his sister Carol and brothers Mark and Thomas. He leaves behind three children Jeffrey, Rebecca and Mary, and grandchildren Elijah, Aidan, Jeffrey Robert, Jane and Grant. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews, and crossed into rest under the loving care of his niece Melissa, in Maine where he made his final residence. \r\r\nJohn was a Veteran who served in the Vietnam war, and a steadfast lover of his Country. He was loyal to his longheld belief that serviceman past and present were heroes of freedom and deserved unending loyalty and support. \r\r\nHe enjoyed the outdoors and could be found fishing and golfing during his retirement. \r\r\nAfter a long battle with illness, John rests peacefully in the arms of his Lord. \r\r\nMatthew 11:28-30 \r\r\n"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." \r\r\n A Military Service will be held on Thursday, August 28th at the Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery on 163 Mount Vernon Road, Augusta, Maine at 10 a.m.
