Chelsea-Elmer C. Penn, 84, took his final journey on Wednesday July 10th after a brief and valiant battle with lung cancer to be with family and friends who have journeyed before him. Elmer enjoyed life to the fullest… a little wild in his younger years but found God later and enjoyed spending time with friends and family over a cup of coffee, a meal, a trip to Wal-Mart or cutting wood. Elmer served proudly in the U S Army from Augusta 20, 1947 to January 8, 1952, including a tour in Korea during the war. He earned the Korean War Service Medal, five Bronze Stars, a Silver Star, Purple Heart, National Defense Metal, Sharp Shooter and more. He is survived by a son Steve Penn and a daughter Rena Penn Cater, two grandchildren, Shane Cater and Autum Cater-Quirion and many friends. He will be greatly missed. Committal services with military honors will be held at 2 pm, Tuesday, July 16th at graveside at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery Mt Vernon Rd in Augusta. A gathering will follow at the Historical Center at Windsor Fair Grounds.
