West Gardiner-Elihu Norman Grasse, Sr., 86, of West Gardiner passed away peacefully Saturday Jan., 21, 2012 at the MaineGeneral Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.He was born on August 24, 1925 in Brooklyn, NY to Mabel and Errold Grasse. He was also known as 'Sonny' to his familyNorman was employed as a grader operator and a boiler operator for the State of Maine until he retired in 1975. 'Grampa' was an avid bowler and inducted into Kennebec Valley Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 1993 and became a lifetime member of United States Bowling Congress.He was predeceased by a son Raymond, grandson, George Glidden, his parents Errold and Mable, sister, Elizabeth Spencer, and loving daughter Carol GliddenNorman is survived by his loving wife of 67 years Barbara Day Grasse, son, Norman Jr., and wife Gail, sons, Robert Grasse and Richard Grasse and his companion Bev Fish, his sister Marjorie , 14 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousinsVisiting hours will be held Thursday, Jan., 26th from 5 to 8pm at Staples Funeral Home 53 Brunswick Ave Gardiner.In lieu of flowers monetary contributions will be put towards funeral expenses.
