Obituary

Pittston-Earl David Holt, "Rusty" loving father and grampy, 65, passed away on November 14, 2014, after a courageous year long battle with cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer). He was born in Gardiner, Maine on March 4, 1949, the son of Earl Clifford Holt and Alice Scott Holt. He was a life long resident of Pittston, Maine. Rusty graduated from high school and later took classes in welding and carpentry. In 1968, he volunteered for the Vietnam War. He was stationed at Fort Dix in New Jersey and later Fort Eustis in Virginia. He was an avid outdoorsman and, after the military, made his living as a trapper, selling furs to Day's Fur Company in Belgrade, Maine and to Campbell's Fur House in Lincoln County. He was also a "digger," digging worms and clams. Rusty went on to be a self-employed carpenter/builder, until his retirement in the fall of 2013. He took much pride in his work and always wanted it done "the right way" – no shortcuts. Rusty was a "jack of all trades" and never hesitated to take on new and challenging jobs. Rusty loved the outdoors. He spent his free time gardening, hunting, fishing, and camping up North with Nancy by his side. He loved nature and enjoyed watching the wildlife in his back yard. Rusty was predeceased by two brothers, Richard "Dickie" Glidden and Daryl Glidden, as well as two sisters, Grace Gero and Lois Holt. He leaves behind a daughter, Lisa Holt Veregge and her husband Steve, granddaughter Lindsey Leonard and grandson and hunting buddy, Quinn Veregge. A son, Earl David Holt II SSG, Ret.
