Dorothy (Dot) Cote Obituary (1933

Dorothy (Dot) T. Cote, 80, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family after several years of declining health, at Gray Birch in Augusta she was born to Patrick and Irene (Cote) Mercier, on November 9th, 1933, in Togus, Maine. Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, her husband Albert Cote Sr. of Augusta, and her sister Cecile Mercier of Augusta. Dorothy quit school in the 5th grade to help support her family, like so many young people did at that time. As an adult she worked at the Old Bates Cotton Mill, waitressed, and house cleaned. She then went back to school and received her GED and worked as a CNA at the Augusta General Hospital. Dorothy enjoyed daily long walks alone or with family members. The weather was never a deterrent for her as she was determined to beat the elements. Dorothy enjoyed reading, teaching her grandchildren to drive, watching John Wayne movies, putting puzzles together, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Dorothy is survived by her children, Albert Cote Jr. of Gardiner, his close friend Katherine Morse of Whitefield, Delores Essency Ryrie and Hugh Ryrie of Rockland, Carvell and Marie Cote of Augusta, Pauline Cote and Ace Rivera of Vassalboro, and Stephanie Cote of Gardiner, 10 beautiful grandchildren and 17 loving great grandchildren. The family would like to thank the many friends and family members who came to visit and sit with her by her side, the staff of Gray Birch Residential Unit for all they did to support and care for our mother; to the staff of the Skilled Nursing Unit which made it possible for family to gather. Both units showed professionalism, compassion, and respect when caring for our mother. There will be a celebration of life on Friday August 1st, 6 to 8pm at Staples Funeral Home.
