Dawn Nelson Greenleaf - age 54 of Augusta passed away unexpectedly on Monday, November 28, 2016. She was a lifelong resident of Gardiner and although she moved to August this past year, she always called Gardiner her home. She was the daughter of Donald R. Nelson and Phyllis Hope Stanley. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister Pamela K. Giandrea and Regina F. Monroe. She is survived by her son Adam Greenleaf, who she loved with all of her heart and her son's father Randy Greenleaf. She also leaves behind her sister Rita M. Briggs and husband Patrick along with her aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Her beloved dog Shadow will be lost without her. Dawn graduated from Cony High School and the University of Maine at Augusta with a Bachelors Degree in Mental Health and Human Services. She worked as a Case Manager for several years before becoming disabled. Despite her illness she loved life and remained positive. She was a loyal, loving mother, sister, and friend. She spent time making beautiful craft items and loved reading and writing poetry. Her poetry gave us inspiration during the losses of our loved ones. She loved 'Footprints' and this was a recent post on her facebook page, 'If I could give you one thing in life, I would give you the ability to see yourself through my eyes. Only then would you see how really special you are to me.' Arrangements are by Staples Funeral Home in Gardiner. There will be a grave site service Friday December 2nd at 11am at Mount Hope Cemetery in South Gardiner with a remembrance luncheon immediately following at the Free Methodist Church in Gardiner. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Maine Special Olympics, 125 John Roberts Road, RT#5, South Portland, Me. 04106 or online at give.specialolympics.org/maine.
