GARDINER- Beatrice Rebecca (Dill) Dessler Giandrea, 91, of 522 Brunswick Avenue passed away peacefully on Friday Oct. 22, 2011 at Winthrop Manor in Winthrop, Me. with her niece, Sherry Bea by her side. She had a short illness.The daughter of Benjamin and Leona (Michaud) Dill, she grew up and lived in Gardiner her entire life. A Lifetime member of Gardiner Sportsman's Club, Beatrice also attended a culinary school in the Gardiner area when she was very young. She owned and operated Dessler's Steakhouse (now Janelle's) where she was a fabulous cook and well known for the pies that she baked! Beatrice and 1st husband, Fritz Dessler operated Dessler's Meat Market in Gardiner and Dessler's Slaughterhouse/weekly livestock auctions in Randolph. They also went to fairs throughout the state with their race horses. Retired from AMHI in Augusta where she worked in the kitchen as a cook. She was an excellent cook, crocheted afghans, embroidered and did other needlecraft. She picked blueberries in the summer on the family farm in the Libby Hill area and played cards at the Sportsman's Club. Also she was always going to garage sales and called herself a 'collector'. Her favorite was any kind of blue glass. She was a big animal lover and was always caring for stray cats. She dined at McDonald's in Gardiner everyday where she enjoyed her friends and coffee. She always greeted everyone with a smile and had a wonderful sense of humor. She attended Christ Church Episcopal in Gardiner.Beatrice was predeceased by her parents, Benjamin and Leona (Michaud) Dill, 1st husband, Fritz Dessler, 2nd husband Herbert 'Mickey' Giandrea and companion, Gilbert Cole.She is survived by her stepsons, Herbert Giandrea Jr. of Kentucky, Colin Giandrea and wife, Susan of Gardiner, Albert Giandrea of Northport, Florida and Raymond Giandrea and wife, Loretta of Winthrop, stepdaughters Marlene Hampson of South Berwick, Jeannine Fitzgerald and husband, Jim of Laconia, NH., many grandchildren, nieces and nephews, two sisters, Vesta Curtis of Visalia, CA. and Nellie Glidden of Hayden, Idaho. Brother, Benjamin Dill and wife, Mary Ellen of Gardiner, nieces, Shirley Burdzel and husband, Norman of Augusta-Priscilla Skalen and husband Cliff of Visalia, CA.,-Sherry Jones and husband Stephen of West Gardiner- Shelley Rowley of Honolulu, Hawaii-Barbara Hicks and husband Charles of Gardiner-Patty Ewen of Bristol, Conn, nephews, Edwin Curtis and wife Judy- Eugene Curtis and wife Sheila-David Curtis and wife Victoria all of Visalia, CA.-Scott Glidden and wife Mariam of Hayden, Idaho 'Daniel Dill and wife Cristal of Turner many more nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Avenue in Gardiner. Visiting hours are Thursday Oct. 27, 2011 from 6 to 8 pm. Service is Friday Oct. 28th at 11:00am. Burial will be followed in the family lot at Libby Hill Cemetery in Gardiner.
